Gentle removal of your Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth removal is relatively simple in most cases and our gentle dentists regularly perform stress-free tooth extractions. Sedation techniques are used to remove the pain and make patients feel relaxed during the extraction procedure.

Signs you may need your wisdom teeth removed

  • inflamed gums
  • persistent jaw ache
  • sinus problems

What causes the discomfort

Impacted wisdom teeth can be very painful, the surgical procedure will relieve your discomfort. When wisdom teeth emerge, they often grow sideways and at an angle that can impact with your back molars causing discomfort. When wisdom teeth have partially emerged they can create a flap of gum tissue that can hold food particles and debris which lead to bacterial infections, known as pericoronitis.

Put an end to painful wisdom teeth

Routine, uncomplicated removal of wisdom teeth can usually be done in your dentist’s surgery, using a local anaesthetic. Surgery is necessary to alleviate the pain and prevent infection from developing, spreading and causing damage to the surrounding teeth.

Making an appointment for wisdom teeth removal

An initial examination is required to assess your affected teeth followed by another appointment to remove the wisdom teeth. You can book the examination appointment online with any of our gentle dentists, Micheal, Adam or Amanda, our surgery is located at 377 Mt Albert Road, Mt Roskill, Auckland.

You will likely receive both local and general anaesthetic, making you feel calm and relaxed. A small incision will be made in your gum and occasionally some bone may need to be removed before the tooth can be extracted. Once the tooth is removed, a blood clot will usually form in the socket. Your dentist will pack it with a gauze pad to stop the bleeding. In some cases a few stitches may be necessary.

Cause of Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Over the last few thousand years with changing dietary habits including cooking food, jaw size has decreased but tooth size hasn’t. This is why we get the problem of impacted wisdom teeth that come through in your late teen and early twenties – there just isn’t the space in the jaw for them. Wisdom teeth therefore do not need to be replaced.
